Issue 17 - October 2013

Note from the Editor

Throughout 2013 responsible investment has continued to make strides and gain legitimacy among mainstream investors.

A new, mandatory reporting framework was introduced by the PRI in October. Not only will it hold signatories accountable, the information gathering process will also encourage the sharing of ideas and best practices within the RI industry and beyond. In Latin America, the launch of the LatinSIF brings the concept of sustainable and responsible investment to the business and financial communities in the region. Co-founded by the Colombian Securities Exchange, the group will organize its third Responsible Investment Conference in Colombia this December.

Finally, at Sustainalytics we're also working to provide investors with more of the material ESG information they need. We have some exciting new developments on the horizon, including more quantitative assessments and forward-looking analysis, to help clients in their investment decision making process (after all, we want to keep our spot as the best, independent RI analysis firm!)

He will discuss the research being done at Columbia and how it can be used by companies in Asia to identify flood risk and predict losses from direct operations or supply chains. ESG and Infrastructure Investments - A case study

RARE Infrastructure and Sustainalytics collaborated to investigate the possible link between infrastructure companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) scores and their stock prices. Although a small negative relationship was found between stock price and overall ESG scores (influenced mostly by environmental scores), social and governance scores were positively linked to stock performance.
